Bakgarður Heiðmörk
Iceland Backyard Ultra
Will be held for the fourth time on Saturday, September 16, 2023. The race will be a traditional backyard run and will follow a specific set-up and rules (https://backyardultra.com/rules/). The race will be a 6.7km loop every hour. The one who runs the most laps is the only one who finishes the race and emerges as the winner. To complete the race, the person must complete the last lap alone. All laps will be started at full time and it is important to get on the grid in time for each lap.https://backyardultra.com/rules/). Hlaupin verður 6,7km hringur á hverjum klukkutíma. Sá sem hleypur flesta hringi er sá eini sem klárar hlaupið og stendur uppi sem sigurvegari. Til að klára hlaupið verður viðkomandi að klára síðasta hringinn einn. Allir hringir verða ræstir á heila tímanum og er mikilvægt að koma sér á ráslínu tímanlega fyrir hvern hring.
This race is not about speed. The emphasis is on enjoying the nature and the company. There will be a unique atmosphere after each loop. The last person to leave the party wins 😀

Backyards are a special kind of ultra runs where participants need to finish running 6706 meters (4,167 miles) within the hour. Each loop starts at the hour and after the runners finish a loop they can use the remaining time to rest and prepare for the next loop. The winner is the last person to complete a loop. If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner. The total distance for a runner that finishes 24 loops (24 hours) is 100 miles (160.9 km).

Q&A
Street running shoes are sufficient in many cases, but we recommend that people invest in natural running shoes (trail shoes or off-road shoes). Nature running shoes are designed to provide good protection for the feet and grip better on e.g. wet stones, mud or loose gravel. In such cases, they are essential safety equipment.
